The K-Leak tester is an essential piece of equipment that allows refrigeration and air conditioning systems to be pressurised; the system works by simulating the operating pressure reached by the system under working conditions. Using K-Leak, the refrigeration technician will be able to pressurise the system to the correct working pressure according to the type of refrigerant gas used; the operating pressure is displayed on the pressure gauge, which features colour-coded sectors depending on the gas charged into the system. Once the operating pressure has been reached, the refrigeration technician will be able to identify any leaks in the system caused by manufacturing defects, component failures, cold welds or improperly executed flanged joints; these leaks will obviously result in a pressure drop in the system, which can be easily detected by reading the pressure gauge, specifically designed for this purpose. Once the source of the leak has been identified and remedied, the system – properly tested and optimised – can be made available to the end user.
Using the kit with a nitrogen/5% hydrogen blend, it is possible to detect leaks of less than 2 grams/year.
